Following in the recent tradition, Play for Elham again met in the Square with well over 200 people to
begin our parade around the village.
This year it was
bigger and better with some spooky surprises along the way!
We took the same route around the square, up St Mary's Road to the
High Street, up Culling's Hill, along The Row to the War Memorial, down
the High Street and back to the Square where there was a Halloween
party at the King's Arms with cake decorating, apple
bobbing, doughnuts on a string, guess what's in the box, stick the wart on the witches nose, amazing balloon creations, BBQ food, snacks and more!
Everyone got into the spirit of Halloween fun and there were some really amazing costumes on show. Poppy and Alec won the prizes for best costume.
A huge thanks to Rose and Will (and their team) at the
King's Arms for all their help, Jackie Rumsey for organising the cake and biscuit decorating, Julia, Jo and Emma for helping out with the games, Paddy and Jimmy for marshalling the route and making sure the roads were car-free and safe, to the boys from Elham Football Club for making a fantastic effort to dress up and hide along the route to hand out sweets and last but definiately not least, for all the residents along the route who went to so much trouble for the kids and carved pumpkins, dressed up, made spooky surprises, handed out goodies, made incredible window displays and more - it really made the evening memorable for the kids (and parents!).
A fantastic £210 was raised through the hot food sales (donated by the Kings Arms), tombola and generous donations - it really does help and we will be putting it towards the cost of the insurance down at the King George V playing field.
