6th August 2009
Hawkinge Community Centre
Play for Elham entered a fun football tournament organised by Kent Police during the Summer Holiday and were looking for players to make a team. You didn't need to be a world class player, just have loads of enthusiasm, team spirit and a desire to have fun.
The tournament was celebrating its 4th successful year with teams from Capel-Le-Ferne, Hawkinge, Lyminge, Lympne and the Police all having competed before. However despite the blistering heat, Elham proved that although having never played together before, they were a team that the others would have to be wary of. After an extremely tough opening game, Elham pulled out the stops, found their rhythm and managed to secure a place in the semi-final where they lost to the eventual tournament winners; Capel-Le-Ferne.
During the day the team were treated to workshops and demonstrations with Colin Nell who is the current 'European Freestyling Champion' (he does clever things with a football, choreographs the moves for FIFA playstation games, and is the body double on some of the amazing football and sports adverts featuring professional footballers...
www.colinnell.co.uk ). Colin also played half a game with Elham in their match V The Police, before being substituted for one of our own better players!!
The day was extremely well organised by Kent Police and our local PCSOs and Play for Elham will definitely be looking to a field a team in the years to come!
Play for Elham Team: Jonathan Allen, Sam Baker, Matthew Davis, Jack Francis, Nick Leary, Louis Lees-Hill, Kieron Taylor, Sebastian van Earton and Jonathan Willcox
The team was run on the day by Richard and Kate Baker in conjunction with Gary Harrison our Local PCSO. Play for Elham also hope to build upon the success of the tournament and organise a series of 6-a-side games over the next few months. Please contact Play for Elham if you would like to be involved.
