GRAND OPENING OF NEW £100,000 ADVENTURE PLAY AREA IN ELHAMThe community-led playground build opened to the general public on Sunday 21st November at 1pm with special guest Marlowe Pantomime Legend, Dave Lee MBE joining the fun.
The party began at 1pm. At 1.30pm Play for Elham announced the Grand Opening of the redeveloped Adventure Play Area on King George V Playground, Vicarage Lane, Elham, Kent CT4 6TT. The ribbon was cut by Jacob Gooderham who won the Golden Ticket prize at our summer fayre.
There was loads to do at the launch party, aside from the amazing new play equipment which will be opened, there'll be a magician, juggler, stilt walker, face painter, live music, hot food and drinks and more.
It is one of the biggest community led playground builds in the area and we all enjoyed an amazing day. The project led by Play for Elham was achieved by securing a £99,831.25 Community Spaces grant from Groundwork UK, funded by the Big Lottery, to build a new play area for the local community.
The Play Area encompasses a wide range of challenging equipment which varies from balancing logs and monkey bars to tunnels, slides, swings, "spitfire zip-wire", bridges and climbing stack. It has been designed to reflect the area’s rich heritage and wildlife with information boards positioned around the play area, with a Sensory Garden and Flower Meadow to be planted in the Spring. Included on the site is a dedicated Learning Arena from which Play for Elham and other community groups can run a variety of small workshops, concerts etc for all ages.
