Hallowe’en Monster Bash, 7.30pm, Elham Village Hall.
Please note that this event has been cancelled due to lack of interest.
The fabulous warm weather experienced this summer has seen the King George V playing fields well used by families from Elham and further afield. It appears that the beautiful location and facilities our park offers make it an attractive place for family fun and picnics which sets it apart from other parks in the area. In addition, its popularity also has a positive impact on local businesses.
Play for Elham has to fund both the insurance and safety checks for the play equipment in the King George V park in order for the community to use it, as well as maintain it both from an aesthetic and safety point of view. Currently this is costing in the region of £2000 per year. This is a large sum of money to find each year which is why fundraising is so important to us as a charity.
The maintenance is all done on a voluntary basis and we are extremely grateful for any help that we get. Maintaining the flower beds, forking over the bark chippings and generally keeping the area looking neat and tidy is a large part of the upkeep. Fortunately our rubbish bins are now being emptied by the dustmen on their rounds, so that is one less task we have to do ourselves. However, we do ask that where possible, certain items of rubbish, such as nappies, are taken away with you as the bins are only now emptied once a week! Last year David Tullett, kindly cut the park free of charge as a community gesture to us all and we are very thankful for his support. This year, due to the Play for Elham mower breaking, the Parish Council kindly agreed to pay for the park to be cut by their contractor until the next review of village mowing contracts.
To ensure that the park remains a safe and pleasant place for children to play, please may we remind you that DOGS ARE NOT PERMITTED IN THE PARK.
We have recently secured additional funding which will go towards gardening tools and to enable us to run a number of free educational workshops for children from Spring 2014.
Play for Elham is a dynamic registered charity that is focused on improving the Sports and Play facilities for the young people of Elham and its surrounding area.
Our main objective is to improve and provide sport and play facilities where needed, as well as run a range of fun, interesting and different events for the youth in the area.
